One of the side-missions I have for my career is to visit kids in smaller towns like the one I grew up in and talk about my path overseas and into the animation industry. My aim is to tell them things I wish I'd known at their age that would have helped me get where I am sooner; advice that might not otherwise be available in communities removed from the creative world.
Yesterday I got to visit my old high school and talk with the year eleven art class. I was worried that I'd just be boring them, but I ended up staying and answering questions for two and a half hours. My voice was hoarse by the end but I'm so glad that they were interested and that I might have helped them get a sense of how to achieve their goals.
